Fall also means the return of America's Sport: FOOTBALL!! We're the only country in the world that referes to soccer as football. How weird is that? Speaking of football, America's version, what do you think about Michael Vick and his involvment in dog fighting? He pleaded guilty in hopes of receiving some leniency from the judge when it's time for his sentencing. Should the judge go easy on Mr. Vick? Share your thoughts.

Musings September 10, 2007

Fall is definatley coming. I got up this moring to take Duke for a walk and was greeted by the brisk cool air. I had to go back in and get a sweatshirt, BURR. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your quickwrites this weekend. Some were funny, some were serious, some were sad, and some were introspective. The one thing they all had in common: Voice. When there's voice, the reader will take an immediate interest in the topic. "Monster Words", " sadness ensconced my world", "His anger stalked me" . These are just some of the phrases that stuck with me as I read your quickwrites. Keep up the good work.

Our nation is deeply divided on the issue of Iraq. What do you think? Should we pull out and let the Iraqis handle their internal problems or should we stay until the situation in Iraq has stablized? Let me know how you feel.

Bob-  I don't have just one opinion. On one side i really don't like the war and how people have to be removed from their families. But on the other side i really don't know a whole lot about why we are having it, so i can't say "the reason for the war is silly, "or any other really good reason to say i don't think it is good for the U.S. 

 

 

Connor- My opinion on the whole iraq thing is this: As long as we arn't taking punches in the U.S. for some of Iraqs decisions, then we can stay out of it, it is their problem. On the other hand, if things get so outta control over there that america has to pay the price, then we need to have troops over there to help out their problems. But, what am I saying, I don't really care whats going on over there ( mainly because I only know a little bit about it.) On another subject, What do you think was the best summer movie?

 

Kelci- I agree with Connor about the whole iraq thing- It should be their problem, we shouldn't have to "babysit" them.

 

BRANDON W- Did you here! There's a new slurpee flavor at the 7-11 on clearwater! That 7-11 sold the most slurpe's in the U.S. and is now giveing away the new flavor that was named after a famous spanish wrestler....so i here anyway. I just can't wait to try it! Ohhhh yeah! As far as the IRAQ thing goes, I think we should stay until this horrific battle ends or ends up comeing here in the U.S. (witch would not be good I might add).

 

Connor- No way!!! A new slurpee flavor? I gotta get down to 7-11 as fast as I can to try it. Did you know a Slurpee machine cost $3000? That sucks because I was totally gonna buy one.

We're well into our memoir unit and have started the task of mining for a memory that will end up being gold. I want to thank those who have shared some of their memories with the class during this pre-writing stage of the unit. You have enriched our lives with your words. Moving on, looks like the blog on Iraq has stirred up some strong feelings. Sounds like most of you are conflicted on what to do. Unfortunately, there are no easy answers and we can only hope and pray that a peaceful solution can be found to the continuing turmoil that exists in Iraq.

Mr. Litzenberger told me the other day that one of his students in his exploratory class thought it would be a good idea to have school uniforms at H3MS. RIGHT ON! I agree. School uniforms would put the focus on learning, not on fashion. No more Abercrombie and Fitch or American Eagle. What do you think? Are you with me on this issue? Let me know.

It looks like some of you are obsessed with slurpees. I tell you what, whoever can come up with a sentence that "shows" the reader through sensory language how good a slurpee is, I'll buy you one.

Connor- OK mr.looseveldt. I'll gladly accept your slurpee challenge. So ill share a quick memoir. On a hot day, after getting slowly baked by the sun, my dad and I go to 7-11, I get my favorite flavor and slowly slurp it into my hot dry mouth, it melts and I can feel the icy cool rush chill down my body in a quick coolness. THE END. On the whole uniform subject, I don't usally care about abercrom.. whatever, so I wouldn't really care or not if we did have school uniforms. So I am with you on this issue Mr, Looseveldt, Also, bring me my slurpee!!!

 

 

Payton Airoldi - I want a SLURPIE! haha. I am doing the slurpie challenge!

 

On a very hot, and steamy afternoon, my dad and I went on a long, quiet, soothing,and relaxing bike ride. We went along the  calm and quiet river where it was cool, and comfy. My dad and I got very hot and decided to go to the 7:11 on the Pasco side of the river. We walked tiredly into the store. My dad grabbed the medium sized slurpies and handed one slurpie cup to me , so that i could ingulge it with cold, soothing slurpie. We paid and then poured them into our hot, and dry throats. THE END!!  Mr.Looseveldt now you have to give me a slupie!

I think that if the school were wanting to get uniforms then sure but they should have CASUAL FRIDAYS atleast!

I always where american eagle or abercrombie so it may be hard . But also people should be able to express themselves. Even though you shouldnt care about what people think about you, you should still be able to express yourself in the way you dress too! But I get where you are coming from Mr. Loosveldt.

Jacob DesCamp- Hey Mr. Loosveldt. I took a look at your page and at the comments students were writing. It's very good. Alot of your students have some very good opinions. Now I'm gonna reply to your questions you asked. First of all, about Mr. Vick. I think it is sick what he did to dogs. He put pitbulls in a fight against eachother and whichever dog performed poorly he violently killed. It makes me sick just thinking about it. He should be put in jail for least a couple years banned from the NFL. Killing animals like that is.. idk. It's just sick. Second, the war in Iraq. I agree with John Shea. If we bring out our troops now, it will have just been a waste of money and lives, and things would just get worse down there. But if we keep out troops down there, we spend millions and billions of dollars on war epuipment and we risk losing thousands of innocent lives. One theory that I heard that I do like that we should take control of the oil fields in the Middle-East, since the money we pay for gas goes toward funding terrorism. It seems to me that we are funding our own enemies' war by paying Mid-Eastern countries for fuel. Third, school uniforms. I think that people attending our school should have to wear school uniforms. It sickens me when I see that kids that are really nice become unpopular because they can't afford to buy clothes from places such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, American Eagle, Aéropostale, and Pacsun. I also dislike how people discriminate cliques and friends bases on clothes. It drives me crazy. I think having a school uniform would help kids coming to our school in the future, but it would be too late for kids already going to our school who are unpopular because of what they wear. Ok, last but not least, the slurpee challenge. Bring it Mr. L, bring it..

           Hot summer. We gear up for the grueling task ahead. Bikeride. We take off, our minds set to not stop for anything until we reach our destination. We head down Washington Street. Past 1st street. Past 19th. Past 10th.  Past Kennewick Avenue. We get to the Columbia River bike trail. The drips of sweat starting to pour down are faces like rain. We get to the Blue Bridge, cross that bike trail, and eventually reach our place. Our most favorite and hardest places to get to. 7-11. Our throats burn with anticipation for the icy sensation of the first slurp of slushee sliding down our mouth. It's like our drug... Our craving. We step through the doors, hearing the ring of that bell above our heads on the door. We walk briskly to the other side of the store, reaching hastily towards the large size cups. We fill it to the top several times, each time slurping a little bit off the top. I hear it rushing through my dry and cracked mouth like a flash flood on Arizona in August. I almost gag myself as I hurry to cram more of it down. ALmost instantly I feel it. It comes. Crash! onto my brain. Freeze. It surrounds all thoughts. I feel like I just caught a tumor in my head. Gah! That's enought for now. We slowly walk to the register with small grins smeared across our faces. That whole 5 dollars we spend on those delicious deluctables was completely worth it. As we step outside preparing to head back on that long 15 mile bike ride back home, we find both ourselves taking one last slurp and sighing, "Ahh... Crisp.."

Alexis Hooper - Hi Mr. Loosveldt. Here's my slurpee sentence (as it says above)You slurp the precious liquid through the bright colored straw, and, as the ice crystals melt delicately on your tongue, you retreat to a cool, icy paradise far away from the stress and worry of the blazing Kennewick sun.

Uniforms? No way! First of all, if people wanted to wear uniforms, they could go to a private school. I really can't imagine some people in polo shirts and khakis......but that's just me. People would lose all outward individuality. Lastly, if kids have to wear uniforms, the teachers should too!  (Hollister and Abercrombie rule!) 

On the memoir topic: I really liked Marley and Me, but it was depressing at the end. Anyone who hasn't already read it should! It captures dogs at their best (and worst) and it made me laugh. Marley reminds me of my cousin's crazy dog Abbie, who has a tumor, and she wasn't supposed to live past November, two years ago! And Abbie's still as wild and out of control as ever!

As for Iraq, there's no easy way of getting out, and I think that because everyone is so divided, no decisions have been made yet. But whatever is, you can expect some critisizing and arguing.  

 

Zebrina DeGraaf- I agree with Alexis about the uniforms. You said that clothes don't define the person or our individuality,  but in a way they do. Yes, you can be an individual and say what you think, but if you look the same as everyone else, it gets boring. If there weren't clothing differences, there would still be clicks because everyone still acts different. I think that if we were forced to wear uniforms, this school would just be a boring school like a private school.

 

Alexis Hooper- Thank you Zebrina! No matter how much people try not to judge one another, they still do, even if it doesn't mean anything once you get to know a person. I love wearing Hollister, the clothes make me feel good, and the bright colors make me happy. If we have to wear uniforms, people would wear pretty much the same thing everyday, and forget about individuality, that would just get boring to me! Waking up every morning and putting on the same thing, day after day after day. There would be no more waiting for your favorite shirt to be clean so you can wear it or anything. Sure some cliques are based on clothes, but most aren't, if you can't stand a person who wears the same kind of clothes as you, you're not going to put up with them just so you can say they're in your "clique." Most people with alike personalities are in the same cliques, and if they choose to wear the same clothes, good for them.

 

Bertha Zanotti- I agree with alexis and zebrina. Unifroms suck the fun out of clothes. I once went to a school wear they had a week when you could wear whatever you want (dress codes still apply) and the next week we would wear uniforms. It just  went on like that. The girls had to wear these disgusting looking dresses and the guys a white button down shirt with jeans or kahkis. They were so uncomfortable. We dreaded every week we had to wear them. If we do end up getting uniforms, there should at least be some way of deciding what KINDS of clothes we can wear. Like if the students came up with ideas on different uniforms for different people. I don't think that people would like to wear exactlly what other people are wearing. It'll be applying to the dress codes and still having some individuality in clothing. It wouldn't be fair if the district chose what we wear, but that's just my opinion.

Briana Ortega- Here's my slurpee sentence:

I made my way to the rectangular machine. I grabbed the large transparent cup & started to fill it up with the Coca-Cola flavored drink. I spotted the brightly colored straws & placed one in my drink. The chilly beverage quenched m thirst as it slowly made it's way down my throat. OW!! The pain & sting of the brain freeze immediatly made my eyes squint. But it was worth it.

So there it is. Hope you pick mine!

Kelci Barton- Ok, Mr. Looseveldt.....I love slurpees as much as the next kid, but I'm kind of slurpeed-out since I've had so many lately, so I'm not writing a scentence. Anyway, I agree with Alexis, Zebrina, and Bertha about the uniforms. I went to a private school when I lived in Ohio, and we had to wear uniforms, like ugly little jumpers and pants/shorts. They didn't even do anything about cliques- the cliques were still there and it was horrible! As Bertha said, it would so not be fair if the district chose what we wore. I know that for me it doesn't matter what a person wears. I don't care about what my friends wear, and I don't think anyone should.

Well, once again, you impress me with your insights. I have to admit that what one wears is a reflection of who he/she is. However, I also think we dress for success. And how we dress for school, school uniforms, sets a tone, a mind-set of learning is serious business and I'm ready to learn. Anyway, I guess we can agree to disagree. I was thinking the other day how the Ipod has transformed our lives in the last three years. Ipods are ubiquitous. Recently, during a weekend in Pullman to see my daughter, it seemed like every student I passed was listening to his/her Ipod. I have to admit at first I was skeptical, what could be so cool about these silver,sliver gloryfied juke boxes? Well, I got one for Christmas last year and now I'm hooked! I couldn't live without my Ipod. My music when I want it. No more listening to radio stations with their continous, obnxious commericals. No more more spending $16.00 for CD's with the one song I want. I go to I Tunes pay a buck and download the song I want. I currenly have over 400 songs on my Ipod. Anyway, I want to hear from you, what do you think about the Ipod? Let us know.

And now for the Slurpee snapshot winner. It was tough coming up with a winner. All the descriptions were good and just verifed my thoughts about what good writers I have in my classes this year. However, I have to declare a winner. So here goes. The winner is... is... the winner is... it's a tie! Jamal Rambo and Jacob DesCamp! Congratulations.

 

Elizabeth Hooper- In my opinion iPod's rock!!!! I mean its a great idea, all your music stored in a convinient sized box, perfect for just about anywhere. In the car, at home, on an airplane, the list just goes on and on. I got a pink nano last Christmas from my mom and dad and I think its one of the coolest things I own. I have about 300 songs on it and plan on asking my dad if I can buy more, since the iTunes account is in his name. Anyway I think iPod's are one of the coolest things on earth but I'm kind of mad that they came out with a new nano that can show video. But there is the question of how good you could even see your video since the screen is so small. For now, I'm happy with the iPod I have. : )

 

Alexis Hooper- Yup iPod's are pretty awesome. No more bulky CD players and all the oversized CDs. Everything is in a compact little rectangle. I got a blue nano last Christmas, when my parent's couldn't find a Wii anywhere. But I ended up getting one, once stores started having them long enough for us to buy one! That same Christmas my Grandma decided to be secretive about what she was giving me, Elizabeth, and my cousin, and it turns out she gave us all iPod shuffles! So Elizabeth and I took ours back (what's the use of having two iPods?) and used the money towards a Wii. I'm kind of bummed about the new Nanos too! But I'll wait till Christmas next year before asking for a more up to date iPod.

I agree with you Mr. Looseveldt, I couldn't live without my iPod! I listen to my iPod so much, I can't go to sleep at night without listening to it!

Another cool thing is the batteries! I don't have to search for them around the house when it runs out, I just plug my iPod in to the computer, my wall charger, or a car charger.

 

Briana Ortega- I agree with you guys about Ipods. the thing is, I don't have an ipod. I have a zune & personally, i think they are way better than ipods. I can hold songs, videos, pictures, & listen to the radio with it. I can't live without mine. & the best part, just like the ipods, they have a rechargable battery. But the price is pretty high for one. I had to save a lot of money before i got mine. 

 

Jacob DesCamp- Hey.. Just wanted to sayyy... I rock. I won the slurpee challenge.. and not you. except Jamal. So yeah.. haha. About the Ipods.. I dont really care for them. I mean, I'm sure they're great and all, but the only time I really listen to music is on the computer. But yeah, music is the greatest thing ever. I love it. Also.. does anybody know what the new slurpee flavor is called? Because that's the kind I want. Hey, Mr. Loosveldt, I have a quote for you that you can put up on this thing if you want, I got it from the book I'm reading called 'Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes.' It's a good book for any of you that are wondering. Anyways, the quote is.. "Everytime you let somebody take your stuff, or let them see you hurt, you get killed." I think it's a pretty good thought. Okay. So i guess we're talking about iPods. I love them so much! haha. well, whats so great about them is that they can be very transportational. if that is a word. 

i have a blue iPod nano. but i think there's something wrong with it. everytime i plug it in to my computer, it deletes some of my songs. before i have 177 songs, and

now i only have 20. Its not very good. but we got it fixed, so now i guess its okay. well.. i guess i'm done. bye.

Wow! Time flies. I'm so ensconced in your theme reflections, I haven't had time to muse on our wiki. I liked to thank all those who responded to my invitation about your thoughts on Ipods. I believe they have definitely impacted the way we live our lives today. Mr. Tolbery and I were talking the other day about an article that appeared in the Monday, Oct. 1, 2007 addition of the Tri-City Herald. It seem that South Carolina is going to same gender classrooms in their state's middle shcools to take advantage of the different learning styles of males and females. The theory is that seperating girls and boys, lessons can be more effective because they are in unique classroom settings. I love this idea. Research shows that boys learn differently than girls. Boys are competitive and like fast paced lessons to take advantage of their short attention span and nervous energy. Girls, on the other hand, like to explore subjects at a slower pace, reflecting on what they learn. Plus, there is less attention on trying to attract the attention of the opposite sex(e.g., note passing). Let me know your feelings on this topic. I'd also like your views on the "new" look of the wiki. Oh, I almost forgot, the quote of the week. This quote come from  Mahatma Gandhi:Knowledge without character is a sin.  Carpe Diem!

 

Alexis Hooper - I love the new look! I like blue more than green....

Thats an okay idea.  I know in Britain and other places in Europe, they have male and female boarding schools, like in Boy, Roald Dahl was at an all boy school. Seperating boys and girls would be really strange though, I mean, for nine years we've been in classrooms with both genders. I can see how girls and boys learn differently, girls are naturally more calm, while boys are more energetic, that has to effect the way we learn.

 

Connor- What up people? Well i'll start out with the ipod. I just got an ipod shuffle ( the really small one without a screen ) And I love it so far. It plays skip free music, how awesome is that. My sister has Thousands of thousands of thousands of thousands of songs on hers, it's almost sickening. Anyway, ipods, pretty cool, right. About the boys and girls class rooms, I don't really have an opinion on that. Either way it doesnt matter to me cuz I can learn in any enviroment. Mr. Losseveldt, how could you say that boys have a short attention span, that is.............wait, what  was i talking about? Oh, and i have a question, can we upload videos to this wiki, cuz if so I have some pretty sweet vids. Well thats about it, but one more question for everybody, what do you like better, Waffles or Pancakes?

Hello people first time using this wiki. Ok about the ipod, I think ipods are great who needs cds right? anyways I have an ipod nano wich I will probaly upgrade to an

ipod touch or ipod classic (new ipods). Mr. L about the whole seperating boys from girls idea, I think whats the use? you think girls pay more attention than use boys? Thats abuserd! I could easly pay attention to the teacher. Although I think that Boys have problem paying attention in class is that we have to wake up EARLY just to make the bus. Also I think its the teachers fault because usaly in a class a teacher is talking forever and ever and ever. What exitment is that? But when boys are playing sports and doing somthing we like to do its a whole another story. We could play for hours until our body cracks and breaks.Thats my thought. About waffles and pancakes, I enjoy waffles with strawberries and wipped cream... and ah man making me want to have some. another thought before i go, what about having a break period during school besides lunch, just to talk, listen to your ipod, and that kinda stuff. well I am done.

Musings October 22, 2007

 Wow! The month of October is flying by. Its been a good weekend, but I can't wait until Monday. Monday is my favorite day of the week because it signals a new beginning, an opportunity to set the tone for the whole rest of the week. Don't get me wrong, the weekend is great, it gives me a chance to recharge my enthusiasm, but after two days I'm ready to Carpe Diem! We've started rough drafts of our memoir. And I'm impressed with what I'm reading so far. I know some of you are getting frustrated. Hang in there. Writing isn't easy. But the investment in time and effort will pay off when you read your memoir and get a laugh, a "Wow", or hear the sound of a muffled cry. Remember what Ernest Hemingway said about writing: We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master. My topic of the week: If you could change one thing about ourself, what would you change?  The one thing I'd change about myself, is having more patience. I find myself getting frustrated when things don't turn out the way I think they should. I also get frustrated when I drive. People who refuse to move when the light turns green. They stare into space or are talking on their cellphones. My hands tighten on the steering wheel until my knuckles turn white. My face becomes flush and my heartbeat races. My palm moves towards the horn, when suddenly, the driver pulls ahead. And just as I come to the stoplight it turns yellow, Doh! Which leads me into my quote of the week: Blessed are the flexible for they won't be bent out of shape.  I can't for you to opine to this week's topic. Carpe Diem!

 

Sierra C- I don't know exactly what i would change about myself if i could. Maybe i would change how tall i am. But i really don't know, because when i'm asked to think of something about myself i can never seem to be able to think of anything. By the way Mr Losveldt, I'm surprised you have to rechare your enthusiasm, i wouldn't  have thought you ever ran out of it!!! I'm just kidding. Any body have any good jokes??? 

 

Dayna- Yeah Mr. Loosveldt I understand what you mean by the getting frusterated when writing our memoirs. Mine hasn't really began to click yet. Just like Sierra I don't know what I would change... There are so many people that say they wish they could be this... That they spend so much time trying to get there that they don't realize all of the good qualities that they have. As for jokes I don't have any but does anybody have any good books?

 

Connor- Hey peoples. what's up? About your question, Mr.L, I would change nothing about myself. I have completly accepted myself for who I am, i don't need to change myself, If i did, then it wouldn't be me. I also know what you mean about people who stop at green lights, exept i think it's funny to watch the driver get mad. I have this question that has just killing me, who do you like better, Spongebob Square pants, Patrick Star, Gary, or Squidward? I like Gary. Peaceout.

 

Briana- ello!! For your question, i don't know what to change. Looks wise or personalitly wise. i think i'll stay the same. but that's just me. WHEW!! i got my memoir done. It took some fine tuning but at last its done. As for Connor's question, Patrick Star. he's so dumb (well that's mean) unintelligent, that it's pretty funny. See ya later!!

 

Alexis - I don't know what I'd change either, it'd be weird to be someone different, like when people ask me and elizabeth if we like being twins. We always say "We've never known anything different" I have no clue what it would be like not to be a twin. My memoir still needs more anecdotes, I have to put 5 years of week long trips to San Francisco on paper. But I'll add those in as I'm revising. My favorite Spongebob character? Probably Gary. "meow"

KAYLA- ok so this is my first time responding so... i'll begin my memoir i think is preety good it has the theme a good lead so i feel ok and ready to share!  now mr. loosveldt please don't get mad at me but i HATE, WELL HATE IS A REALLY STRONG WORD, BUT I REALLY DISLIKE MONDAYS (no offense) all mondays mean is a whole week of school. no more staying up late or sleeping in. more homework to do and the weekends are AWESOME but they go by sooooooooo fast. what would i change. . . well i guess getting in shape for softball season, it's  coming up but anything else no i like who i am! slow drivers are annoying but funny too. yesterday there was this truck in front of us he kept swerving he might of been drunk or just a really bad driver (he could of been do something else like writing or something i don't know!) anywaz i like sponge bob or squidward i don't know why tho. good jokes uuuuuummmm . . .  what do you get when you clean out the meat in the center of a hot dog??

Shelby Z-Hola! Oh my gosh-it took me FOREVER to figure out how to comment this thing. Lets just say that i'm not techno-savvy. Mr.L-i TOTALLY agree with you on the whole patience thing. It's aweful being stuck behind someone slow when you're in a hurry. I know that i don't like it...my modre (like the spanish???) told me that people take 30% longer in the parking lots when they know somebody wants that spot. Sounds mean, huh? Hows it going "BFF" Connor? It's funny when the driver gets mad, except that use to be me. I got a story-when i was little, i thought that people were looking at me when we'd drive through a light. I used to sob in my car seat over that one! My favorite charector is probably.........(drumroll please!)........Spongebob! He's funny but is able to stay cool all the time. My turn for a question-which is better-CocaCola or Pepsi? I like them both! See ya'll at class!

I think my memoir is almost ready and will give every one of you wet diapers no joke.  I like squidward the best because he puts up with so much you have to give him respect. Also he is the best clarinet player in the ocean. Well i like pepsi better because they taste the same and i can find pepsi cheaper so ya. I carved my pumpkin today ya me! Well i would rather not have patience and park in the back and walk. Yo everybody! I like my own personality but I agree Mr.L. One of my greatest pet peeves is being late, so, naturally I get frustrated when

people just sit at the stoplight or take forever trying to make a right turn at an intersection. But, other than that, I am pretty flexible. I like Patrick because of his sheer stupidity and how he gets beat up all the time.I also like both Coke and Pepsi but I agree with Bryce, I mean  Crazy Legs. Pepsi is cheaper. A good Joke... "Why don't they let blind people go skydiving?"

hey! I mainly got on to ask Mr. Looseveldt a question. Can we post book reveiws now? I know the page is ready but I didn't want to mess with it until I had permission. About memoirs, I'm almost done typing my memoir and I think it's good. It's not long but I like it. I need another book to read too. Mr L do you have any more recommendations? I liked The Book Theif, but like you said it wasn't a fast-paced book. I still think its creepy how death narrates it. I agree with you, Mr L on the whole slow-people-thing. Life is short and death is long, so why waste time being idle? Anyway see you all tomorrow!

Kelci~ hello! anyway, first thing I'm going to say is that "Sesom Leinad" is "Daniel Moses" spelled backwards, so I figured it out- haha! Like what Dayna said, I probably wouldn't change anything about me, except for a few smallthings. For Bryce- I like both Pepsi and Coke- for my family we get whichever we want at the time. Shelby Z-Hey there Mr.L! I have a question directed towards you, not really the class. Is it possible to get an exstention for my memoir because our computer lost "Word" and the printer hasn't worked since the start of school. I was going to ask you in class, but I had a blonde moment and totally spaced off. If I could finish typing it at lunch in your class or in the library or something, that would be fantastic because I don't want to turn in something that I'm not proud of because I rushed through it. Musings November 5, 2007

 

Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole. -Roger Caras I came across this quote the other day and thought, Wow! Isn't that the truth. I've had dogs as pets my whole life and they have taught me valuable lessons about life and, as a result, my life is immeasurably better. Louis, our minature French Poodle, was a tough dog despite his size. Many people think of Poodles as petite and fragile dogs. Not Louis. I remember one time seeing two labs digging and pulling trying to free Louis from his chain we had attacted to a post. The labs were trying to free Louis so he could roam with them. Another time Louis went chasing after a car that had run him over. Yeah, he was tough and taught me that if you believe in yourself, anything is possible. The only limitations we have are the ones we impose on ourselves. Sadly, Louis mysterously disappeared one November morning, but his memory lives on. I invite you to share your memories of a pet and what you learned from them on the wiki.

One last thought: This Sunday, November11 is Veterans'Day. We observe the holiday on Monday and there is no school. I'd like you to take a moment to think about the sacrifices our veterans made so that we can live in a country where freedom abounds. If you get the chance, thank a veteran. All this week NBC news is running a series of reports on veterans who earned the Medal of Honor, it's an inspiring series. I hope you take the time to watch it.

J'Neil -  Well, I don't have a pet. I had fish at one time when I was like five... but other than that I haven't had a pet. I like cats though, not to contradict Mr. Loosveldt, just pave the way for fellow 'cat-likers'.  So for Veterans' Day: I'm glad there is a day to celebrate or 'observe' the veterans that have served our country-without them, a lot of stuff we take for granted would be gone! *poof* For some interesting news I'd like to read what people say about it: did you know that the value of the U.S. dollar is decreasing? (ex: the U.S. dollar used to be 70% of the Canadian dollar (worth more) so 7 U.S. dollars was the same as 10 Canadian but now it's like 105% so 10.05 U.S. dollars gets you only 10 Canadian dollars!) They (I'm not sure who 'they' are) think that it will continue decreasing. If it goes down enough than we could be in a 2nd depression!!(with us buying goods from different countries and what-not) Well, on the bright side, that would take a very long time and 'they' are trying to fix everything that is going on...        Why can't we all just use the same currency?   

 

Briana- I have a pet. his name is Toby & he's a miniture dachshund (although he's not so miniture.) I really like Veterens' Day. Mostly because my grandpa was in the Vietnam war. & luckily he is still alive. Its a great time to thank people for all they've done to help our country. As for J'Neil, I DON'T WANT A 2ND DEPRESSION!! One Great Depression is good enough! 

I got a question for everybody. (i got it out of the planner.) How come when you mix water & flour together you get glue... then you add eggs & sugar & you get cake. Where does the glue go??

If you have an answer please tell me. This is a question that i ponder. so anyway, see you all in class!!

 

Hola Classmaties,

   This is BarbieGirl comin' to ya from the sunny side of the ghetto! No drug busts this week, but a couple days ago we did have someone drive into the canal in front of our house! It was so intense I almost peed my pants!!!! But anyways regarding tough pets there's this really cool story about my old cat.

     One day we got home from school and pulled into the garage I pushed the close button and the garage door went down like usual. But a couple minutes later I heard my cat crying in the garage. I just thought that maybe he had gotten stuck in the garge when I shut the door but it was a little more than that. I stepped into the garage flipped on the light and BAM! There's my cats butt in the middle of the garage door. I ran out to the front yard and there was the other part of my cat. I started screaming for my mom to get over here NOW! We eventually got him out and he lived for two more years!!! THat cat was pretty much squished in half and still lived on!  But his life did come to an end when one day he wondered too far into the neighbor's yard and came face to face with their pet rot weiler.

    Goliath tought me that no matter how hard you get hurt there's still something that could be worst so just be greatful that you're not decapitated by an evil doggie.

Yeah, i'm Sesom Leinad. I guess it wasn't really that hard but it was still fun to do. I've never had any pets but i've always wanted a dog.

My brothers are all somewhat scared of dogs but I love them and it feels natural for me to be around them. So, which do you like better (out of my seven alter egos):Mr. Smiley, Mr. Sharkey, the Crazy Squirrel,Sesom Leinad, Senor Fantastico Pantalones, The Great One x 24, or...Daniel Moses. To answer J'Neil, I defenintly don't like the idea that the dollar bill is losing value but it does remind me of a "Prickly City" comic. Winslow and Jennifer (I think that's the girl's name isn't it?) are looking at a dollar bill and Winslow says " Oh my Gosh, I can't believe i've never seen that before." Then it shows you a the picture of the dollar and up at the very top it says "made in China". Hows that for mass production? Another good joke is... "What's the difference between a golfer and a skydiver?" I know what you're thinking, " What's the similairity right!" Wrong!!!

 

The answer is that a golfer goes "Whack... Dang It." A skydiver goes " Dang It"... "Whack" See you next musing, Bye-Bye!

 

J'Neil- this will be quite short so... Ha, ha, Daniel. That golfer-skydiver one was funny. I personally like your Señor Fantastico Pantalones alter ego...     well, yeah that's about it...  Wishing I had more to say.... Have a great 4-day weekend!!

 

Alexis- Well, I have two amazing hamsters. Woodrow and Roosevelt. Some people may say that something two inches long can't have a personality, but they really do! Woodrow, is nick-named the alpha-hamster. She demands attention, cookies, and anything else she wants. And she's not afraid to give you a nip on the finger to put you in your place. Woodrow also squeaks if you try to pick her up out of her cage, you have to wait until she climbs the bars and onto her hand (though she's so chubby she can't do it as well as when she was younger, but she won't accept help). Everything has to be her idea. Roosevelt is the exact opposite and is easy-going. Sometimes he just wants out to sleep in my hand, or lie on his back eating a cookie (oh, yeah, cookies are these wafer like treats we give them). My "hammies" are amazing! A second depression? That would suck, to be frank. But everythings so different from how it was during the first depression, so it would be different to. Kind of makes you wonder...

 

 

well this is my first time responding so i might mess up. well i live on a farm, and even though we cant exactly communicate with animals, they can teach us so much. a few of you may know me as the goat girl, i have pleasure in goats mainly because of one i had for quite a while. her name was Cloe, she was so caring, i couldnt even believe she was a goat, she'd pretty much babysit the other goats' babies and she was never harsh to any of the goats. but alot of our goats passed away this year with a disease, it was really intense.

personally, i hate war. it doesnt make sense to me, everyone says'oh world peace' but then they go off to war and kill people. even though it makes me angry that this is going on, i appreciate how many people risked their lives to keep us safe.

i am soo excited for this weekend.. finally we get to relax. =]] is anyone going to the kennewick or southridge game saturday? 'cant wait for that. this weekend im painting, sleeping, & dying my hair. what is everyone gonna do?

Jacob DesCamp- lol. I'm out of date on this thing.  Bryce! That was so funny when you guys called me. Also, to your little riddle, it's either me or you that drives Michelle crazy and throws a no teacher class party. Ugh. About pets... We have a Britany Spaniel. Hunting dog, pure bred, came from award winning parents, from like, massachusets. He's just a lil puppy. He can be so annoying!! He wakes you up every hour while you're sleeping.. that just doesn't work with me. I mean sure, he's cute and all, but.. I don't know. But anyways.. doesn't it get so annoying when people talk about you behind your back? I mean seriously.. just go say it to their face. Also, why has everyone been saying, "Bob Saget!" ?

That tourettes guy isn't even that funny.. Most people don't even know who Bob Saget is. Anyways, have you guys ever seen Dukes of Hazard? that's like, the funniest movie ever.  There was one thing on this Wiki, it was like, what do u guys think about Ipods. Well, what are your guys' favorite songs? Right now, mine is, "All at once" by The Fray. It's pretty good.. Look up the lyrics. Sierra and I watched the office last night, our favorite show ever, especially Dwight, he's the funniest. Another thing NBC is doing this week is green week, all the shows are having plots and events that have something to do with the environment and taking care of it,like on the office, michael thinks he can survive in the wilderness, doesnt work out... and on the biggest loser they unplugged all of the exercise equiptment to conserve energy and they had to find other ways to work out. I have gone through many pets, 2 beagles, Diamond and Shaquille, a cat, Sassy, and about 5 fish or so...currently we have a 1/2 basset hound, 1/2 black lab dog, Hallie, and a cat, Sophie. my pets comfort me a lot, for example, in the evenings my cat sleeps on my bed for hours & i have to push her out of the way for me to be able to sleep there! & to answer Jacob's question, bob saget is my hero. hes the coolest guy around, you're just jealous. also the tourettes guy died!! saddest day.  my favorite song is our song by taylor swift. just to let ya know. scroll down.

Kelci- Hello all. I just wanted to tell you all about this really cool game I heard about on the news. You can find it at www.freerice.com and what you do is it's a word game where you match up the meaning to the word given, then for each word you get right, a real company donates 10 grains of rice to United Nations to feed world hunger. The thing is, 10 grains doesn't sound like alot, but when you play the game for a couple of minutes, those 10 grains become something more, like over 200 grains. If you think of how much rice it would take to feed a child, you only have to play a few minutes to feed one. And the awesome thing is- it's completely and totally FREE!!!! hahahaha! So I was thinking that we could have kids in the class challenge each other to see who could raise the most rice. It's fun and it's for a good cause, so anyone who reads this should try it! And NO DICTIONARIES ALLOWED! It won't set you back to the beginning when you miss a word, so there's no point in looking up words. Well, I have to go, so bye.

 

Rachelle~ The wiki has really become a place where people can write. I finally got on and decided to read what people wrote. Oh Jacob, I showed my mom that list of questions and she laughed. Did you make them up or did you get them out of a book? Also, it seems like people have been writing about their pets. I'll end up writing forever on this topic! I'm a big pet person. Well, not really a pet person more of a cat person. My family has had a total of 7 pets. First was our golden cat named spunky who lived for 17 years before he got hit by our car. One minute he was on the front steps, then he was under the front wheel. I never stop hearing that awful thud, the sound of our 17 year old cat. I loved him and there was nothing anyone could do to save him. When Spunky was still alive during his older years, we got another goden cat names Michief. Why do you think he was named Mischief? It was because he was naughty and would get into so much trouble. I'm not even going to explain some of the things he did. But one day Mischief didn't return home around dinner. I thought he might be gone forever, but my parents said he would come back..... He never did. We put up lost cat signs and everything, but in the end, we think a coyote got him. You can't say there aren't coyotes in canyon lakes, we've had nieghbors see them on the streets at 6 in the morning. Now for pet number three. During the time we had our 2 great cats, we inherited a hamster, Brownie, from mrs. Mcbride. He had caner and was predicted to die in about 4 months. He died 2 years later. By the time Brownie had died spunky was gone and Michief had disappeared.Then we had no pets. This all happened around 5th grade. In fact Michief died in the summer before 5th grade, Spunky on the first day of 5th grade, and Brownie on the 3rd or 4th day. While we had no pets, we decide to get a pet. We got a black hamster named blacky. (clever name huh?) He was a wonder ful pet and fun to play with.We bought him toys and fun climing tubes.That October was a great month. I fell in love with muffin, and Michelle thought snowflake was an angel. On the night before halloween, It had been 8 weeks since muffin's birth and we were bring him home.He was lonely that night so my mom slept with him on the couch. The next night snowflake arrived and she had a friend to play with and to cuddle with at night in their little basket. (by the way, snowflake barely fits in the basket now, muffin doesn't fit) We now had 2 loving kitties  and a hamster again. Muffin, a big, gray, fluff ball! and snowflake a sweatheart (Yes michelle I won't say she's mean and chases my feet and bites me and hisses in my face. But she has her moments). I guess you could say that having a hamster and 2 young, playful, cats with hunting insticts wasn't a good idea. Muffin would jump up by the cage and hiss and jitter at the hamst. Of course there was no way he could get in there because we had a brick on the top. Blacky got cancer and soon died when I was in 6th grade. He lived a good life and besides,my mom said that rodents get cancer more that other animals. Now we have Muffin and Snowflake. (don't laugh at muffin's name. For some reason, everybody thinks muffin is not a boys name) They are our 2 cats who have grown so much. They get bigger every day. Pets are good for people. they can make you sad or happy.They are mans best friends and will always be there for you.

        Hey Keci, that game sounds interesting and I think the challenge sounds like a good idea. I'm going to play it right now so I have to go, but I'll tell you if I like it tommarow.

 

Jacob- ISS has been pretty fun. I'll be in class tomorrow, which is Wednesday. And Rachelle, I made all those questions up. Pretty good, eh? Anyways, I rented like, half of The Office, season 3. I'm hooked. It's so funny. My favorite guy is Jim, then Dwight. But I also like Kevin, and Stanley. Angela is annoying. What do you guys think about that show? What are your guys' favorite T.V. shows, and why?

 

 

David- mornin all it looks like I've missed a lot since ive last been on well i guess that i have a lotta questions to awnswer first of all jacob the pizza box question is simple its easier and faster to manufacture and who would want either a pizza in an oddly follded box or a cone which are the only 2 folds that can fit the circle when a box is easy and well folded. second the paying to look at the ground is just the fact that some people will pay good money for a good veiw. third to the song question actually bah bah black sheep shares the same tune for some reason and yes they do. another question: if we only see what our brain tells us we see and feel what it tells us we feel and we change what it says then wont we be changing reality oh and another thing how did we measure the speed of light and if light from the sun takes years to get here then wont the history of what we see on the sun be out dated by about 50 years in other words what we see happining on the sun today probably happened lotsa years ago right? Any way to the reason i was typing here in the first place my book report:

 

LEVEN THUMPS AND THE GATEWAY OF FOO

leven thumps would seem to me as a book with a dynamic storyline and has many plot twists that send you on a roller coaster ride of seprate feelings just like the mood of the main character leven.

thats just how good the description is you just feel as though you are actually the main character. Leven thumps is your average kid with horrible foster parents and an even worse life (oh and the nick name skunky due to a white strip in his black hair). with the couple all waysgrumbling about somit or another (mostly leven) and forcing him to sleep on a tiny bed on the porch of a double wide. Levens only compensation is the large tree right by the trailer (not a tree)under which he shelters and finaly feels safe. then his life gets a kick start when he meets clover ( a foot high sycophant(sick-o-funt) whos new burn is and has been leven and thus starts the story leading you into a talking tooth pick a messy (and cold) girl named winter and a dark hearted dream as clover and leven try to find the gate way to foo. foo is a place where the hopes and dreams of man are preservered (without hope or dreams man cannot survive). well thats the long and short of it or at least this book in the series (there's 3 of em). at its core its just your better than average fantasy book with an avid cast of crew and a flow of problems that never seem to end.

J'Neil- well, David, that was a lot to read....   I don't know about your reality question... but for the one about light years, scientists measured the distance light traveled in a certain amount of time (a distance they could measure here on earth) then they took that time and multiplied it by the number of times it would fit into a year  (a very large number) then using the 'what's done to one side must be done to the other' rule the scientists muliplied the distance by the same number as before thus, getting the size of a light year. The light from the sun takes as many years to get here as light years it is away from us (in this case a range between 91 million miles and 94.5 million miles, a lot eh?)     ~* a random earth fact: the temperature ranges from -128^o F to 136^o F *~     So, repsectfully the hubble space telescope and many others are looking into the past (the hubble looks about 12 billion years back yet that present time would be only 800 million years after the big bang, (reminder billion is larger than a million, that confused me for a while)). You are correct.  Although with Astrophysists studying Sun spots, I don't know what to tell you. This is my book review. I read an awesome adventerous book called Amazing Grace by Megan Shull. This story is abouta famous teenage tennis player named Grace Kincaid. She is getting very sick of playing tennis and being famous so she quits tennis to become a normal girl. She goes undercover so the press doesn't find her. As Emily O' Brian, red hair, nose ring and all, she moves to medicine hat, Alaska. Why did she move to medicine hat you ask? Well her mom has a friend named Ava Green who lives there in a cute little cabin out in the middle of nowwhere. She takes emily in like she is her own kid. Very nice you say, Ava lets emily live with her undercover for 3 months.

 

 

 Emily O' Brian loves her new home, new people that she has met, new place and a fresh new start after quitting tennis. When emily meets a friend of ava's, everything starts to come to a close. Teague treats emily just right and emily loves that. They seem to be boyfriend, girlfriend. Teague gets emily to meet his cousin fisher. Fisher and emily become best friends. They tell eachother everything. Towards the end of the book a conflict starts to come into place. What happens to Emily (grace), does she stay in medicine hat,Alaska or is she forced to go back to her old life of the rich and famous tennis player? If you want to find out, read this awesome book called Amazing Grace. You will learn alot, like even if you struggle for a while through change you never know when what will happen. In the end everything could turn out perfect!

 

Shelby Zimmerman: Hey everybody! I haven't been on for a while, but I decided to take a look in my free time. Alexa-I TOTALLY love the Dwight pic. I love The Office but my mom thinks that it's totally dumb, but thats just her. Jacob-I like to watch The Hills, but recently there's been the same drama about the same thing (Heidi and Spencer getting into little arguements, Lauren mad at Heidi-still, Audrina upset about Justin-Bobby-once again!) What's up 'BFF Connor"??? I didn't know you played basketball! Whens the next game?

 

Connor- What's up. to answer shelby's question our next game is monday at horse heaven against Garrison. "the hills" is not that great of a show, the good shows are "Oprah","Dr,Phil", and "Days of our lives". Those are the shows I roll with. The snow is awesome huh? Gavin and I got busted by Mrs.Denslow for wrestling. I had a really good question that was like...trippy and stuff, but I can't remember what it is.UGH! this forgetfullness is gonna bug me all night. So far its made me almost cry cuz it reminds me of my 30 year old sister that was mentally challenged! She died about one and a half years ago. Hey mr L. i know people havent been on...but i wanted to let you know that i found out what the lyrics to come together by the beatles means...well sorta. i looked it up on google and its actually undecided unless you asked a member of the band. theres many theories about it though. one of the most common ones is that each section of lines is about each member in the band. another one is that someone told john lennon to do a song and go off of "come together" so he went in the studio and just started. ohh and this is a big one-many people dont know, but if you find the CORRECT lyrics, when it sounds like he says "shoot", he really said shoot me with a clap, but its blocked out by the base line. theres also a line in the song that many people misunderstand. its "Hold you in his -armchair- you can feel his disease." It's actually "Hold you in his arms, yeah, you can feel his disease." all published sheet music had the "armchair" lyric, including the inner sleeve of the 1967-1970 compilation, which had lots of other errors too. i did lots of research on this cause i was listening to my ipod when i remembered what happened in class. so i thought i'd tell you what i've heard. -shelby z......
