Expository writing is as much about thinking as it is about writing. Its purpose is to explain and to inform. During this unit of study, I will give the students various writing activities that will allow them to fine-tune their expository writing skills.

Expository Essay Learning Objectives:

1. Students will publish an expository piece on a topic of their choice
2. Students will incoporate the tools of a writer in writing their expository essay:

• engaging lead
• strong verbs
• effective transitions
• convincing conclusion
