Bronx Masquerade Learning Goals and Objectives

 The Bronx Masquerade is a compelling novel by Nikki Grimes. The novel is written in narrative and poetry and follows the lives of 18 students in Mr. Ward's English Class. The reader gets to know the  challenges and obstacles each student faces through his/her narrative and poetry.

Goals and Objectives of The Bronx Masquerade Unit:

  1. Students will analyze how some of the characters' sterotypes and prejudices can be a hinderence to tolerance, a major theme in The Bronx Masquerade.
  2. Students will identify the dynamic character in the novel and those events that lead to his/her changes
  3. Students will identify th poetic devices of simile, metaphor, alliteration, personification, and hyperbole used in the poems and analyze how these devices shaprened the images in these poems
  4. Students will analyze how conflict influences the actions and thoughts of the character
